China's wool consumption has weakened in 2007, as yarn production has been curtailed. January through November wool yarn output dropped 7 percent from the previous year to 330,543 tons, with monthly production having declined for the past 7 consecutive months. Wool yarn output in 2006 reached 402,000 tons, up from 387,000 tons in 2005. Annual output of wool yarn has remained substantially below the record level achieved in 2004 when 433,000 tons of yarn was produced. Wool fabric output is continuing to expand but at a slower pace. January through November wool fabric production increased 3 percent to 489 million meters, which represented a slowdown from 2006 when output reached a new record of 445 million meters.
