US Textile imports post sharp decreases in first half

The U.S. Commerce Department reported that January-June imports of textiles and apparel sharply decreased by 10.3% from the year before to 21,867 million square meters equivalent. The value declined by 14.3% to US$37,549 million.
In value, imports decrease for nearly all suppliers; the only country registering an increase was Vietnam (up 1.5% to US$2,481 million). Imports from China decreased by 3.4% to US$13,369 million, but China?s share in the total value rose by 4 percentage points to 34.6%, and that in volume by 1.8 points to 40.8%.
